You would think that a dominant team like Mercedes would have it easy, but it also has its challenges to stay at the top for a long time. Team principal Toto Wolff says motivating the team is the biggest challenge.
Staying motivated the biggest challenge for Mercedes
In an interview with Speedweek, Wolff says there are dangers behind the team's dominance. "Motivating is one of the most difficult aspects. It is very dangerous to have the attitude that you are the winner. You have to counteract this. You have to motivate yourself again, set goals that everyone understands and sees as new motivation for themselves," says Wolff.
The DAS system that was much discussed last year is no longer allowed from this year onwards. For this reason Mercedes had to make adjustments to the floor of the car. "The change to the underfloor, from which a part is cut, is decisive in the technique," says Wolff.
"This has forced a rethink of the whole concept. Therefore, we cannot rule out Red Bull Racing or Aston Martin coming up with a better solution," Wolff said.
