Sergio Perez spent his first day as a Red Bull Racing driver on the track today. The Mexican looks back on a 'dream come true, despite driving a 2019 car.

Optimisation for first day of filming

Perez drove his first metres in the Red Bull RB15 today, and it certainly made for some great pictures. The Sakhir Grand Prix race winner drove a solid number of laps to optimise his seat and pedals and get to know the Red Bull cars.

"It’s been amazing", Perez revealed in a press release from his team. "To look at my name on the car is something very special. It’s definitely a dream come true. We’ve already done a lot of work in the simulator working on the controls and I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made in terms of feeling more comfortable in the car", He already feels a lot more at ease in the car, he reveals.

Many differences from previous cars

There are quite a few differences in this and Perez's previous Formula One cars. "It’s still an F1 car in the end but the seating position is different, the steering wheel, the brakes, the buttons, procedures, the engine and the power delivery, the torque, so many things are different. But I can see there is so much potential with this team."

On Wednesday, both Perez and teammate Max Verstappen will be in action at Silverstone. The two will then work through a day of filming with the new 2021 RB16B.
