Red Bull Racing are not the only team that are busy testing this week, the Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have also completed a number of tests since last Monday, reportedly to test the new Pirelli tyres.
Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc completed around 85 combined test laps on the new Pirelli tyres on March 23. This is reported by Speedweek, despite both Ferrari and Pirelli keeping quiet about it. The drivers were active at the Jerez circuit in the Andalusia region of Spain.
The first tests of the Ferrari men on the new tyres began last Monday and will be concluded today. The tyres tested are the Pirelli 18-inch tyres, which will be introduced with the new generation of race cars in 2022 and have a less defined profile than the current tyres. Prior to the introduction in 2022 Pirelli has been given 30 days to test and optimise the tyres.
Already in Formula 2
Although the tyres will not yet be used in the premier class of motorsport, they are already part of the equipment in Formula 2. Here they were introduced in 2020.
