These are the tyres F1 teams used to set fastest times in Bahrain testing
- GPblog.com
Fast times at a winter test don't always reveal a lot. One of the variables that play a role is the tyre that is used. Some teams choose not to use the softer, faster tyre at all.
During the first day of testing in Bahrain, this was the case for Mercedes. The team spent a long time in the garage both in the morning and in the afternoon and therefore had no time to switch to a softer tyre, something teams usually do later in their programme.
Only Ocon drove on soft
At the front, Max Verstappen set his fastest time on Medium. Norris was only two tenths slower on the same tyre in the final phase of the session. After Ricciardo's fast time in the morning, this seems to confirm that McLaren is a team to be reckoned with this season.
Behind them, Esteban Ocon was also fast on the soft tyre and in the last ten minutes of the afternoon session, Lance Stroll came out on a Pirelli prototype medium tyre and set the fourth-fastest time. So we can't say much about that. Below an overview of the fastest times of the drivers.
