George Russell: 'At Mercedes, analysis goes deep into details'

George Russell will drive his third year in Formula 1 next season. The young Brit almost always drove for the Williams team. However, in December last year he made his appearance at Mercedes due to the absence of Lewis Hamilton. Russell experienced many new things.
Russell has learned a lot from his drive in the Mercedes. In Bahrain, he replaced Lewis Hamilton because he had tested positive for coronavirus. That gave Russell a chance to sample what the Mercedes has to offer.
Combining different ways of working
He discovered a lot about Mercedes and about the way they work. This he hopes to combine with Williams' knowledge. "I think Mercedes' way is very analytical and very deep into certain details, which I was able to convey in [terms of] how their engineers work," he says at Motorsportweek.com. He continues: "It's interesting and I can almost take a little bit of both and almost put them together to see what works best for myself."
Driving a Mercedes did require some adjustments for Russell. "I had to adapt my driving style quite a bit to get the most out of their car and also when I came back to Williams I had to go back because I couldn't do things in a Williams that I could do in a Mercedes."
