Poll: Did race control correctly penalize Verstappen overtake in turn four?
- GPblog.com
The Bahrain Grand Prix seems to have officially kicked off the titanic battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. However, the fight already reached a boiling point today when Verstappen went too far off track after attempting to overtake his colleague and had to surrender the spot he won.
Heavy discussion about the incident followed shortly after the race. The track limits at turn four have been a thorn in the side of many drivers' side all weekend, and the vague enforcement of the track limits doesn't make this any easier. Hamilton said he had been using the wider racing line for the entire race.
Verstappen was penalised for using the wider line to make a direct overtaking manoeuvre. As a result, he had to immediately clear the way for Hamilton and give back the lead in the race.
Substantial advantage
Although the FIA previously reported that they would only enforce track limits in turn four during the race if it was used for overtaking, the question remains whether Hamilton, by opting for the wider racing line for the majority of the race, did not gain a substantial advantage over the competition.
Therefore the following poll: Did race control act correctly in penalising Verstappen's overtake in turn four?. Let us know your opinion below!
