New record for Hamilton: Where does he stand in relation to other champions?
- GPblog.com
It's raining records for Lewis Hamilton. Most records have been broken or equalled by now, but Hamilton broke yet another one during the Bahrain Grand Prix: Most laps in the lead of a race.
Apart from the number of championships, in which he is still on a par with Michael Schumacher, you would not think that there are any records that Hamilton has not broken. Yet that turned out to be the case, when the record for the most laps led was broken in Bahrain.
Many old champions in the top ten
Until that moment the record was held by Michael Schumacher. He has led a total of 5111 laps in a race. For Hamilton that's 5126 laps, after the last race. The gap to the number three is big: Sebastian Vettel has led 3495 laps.
In fourth place is Ayrton Senna, with 2931 laps in the lead. He is followed by Alain Prost, who has 2683 laps to his name. Remarkably, the rest of the top ten consists mainly of champions from the past, except for number nine: Fernando Alonso, who drove 1767 laps in the lead.
Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen is not listed yet, but he still has some time to go. Currently, Verstappen is leading 646 laps, which is ten percent of the total number of laps he has driven.
