Wolff: "It would be a logical continuation of our cooperation"

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes kept the Formula 1 world in suspense for a long time this year about the extension of his contract. It was only in February that they came out with the news that the Briton was staying on for another year. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff hopes things will be different this season.
Lewis Hamilton is a seven times world champion at Mercedes. This season he has a good chance of winning the world title, although Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen will come fearfully close. Both cars are keeping each other in balance for now, so it looks like it will be a duel between the two drivers.
For now, Wolff retains confidence in the multiple world champion and hopes he will still be with Mercedes next season. Things should then be a lot less exciting than they have been in recent months. "He has been linked to Mercedes since his days in karts and has never driven without a Mercedes engine in Formula 1. It would be a logical continuation of our cooperation", Wolff said in conversation with Formula1.com.
Competition from Mercedes
Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas need to stay sharp though, as behind them there are plenty of talents who can take over. "We are doing our best for the long term of the team, but also want to be loyal to our current duo", explained Wolff. "We have no doubts whatsoever with Hamilton and Bottas, but talks will of course take place."
