Leclerc is ready for battle with McLaren: "It's going to be a good fight"
It's been a difficult couple of years for Ferrari but in qualifying for the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc managed to get onto the second-row of the grid. Leclerc says the team will be pushing hard during the first race in Italy this season.
"We need to push"
"It felt good. I was actually quite frustrated after my fast lap because I lost a bit of time at turn 14 and 15. I took the kerb in the wrong way and lost 7 or 8 hundredths and I was expecting to be closing one or two positions because we are all so close," he told Sky Sports.
"At the end P4, we couldn't have gone P3. It wasn't enough today. Happy with our performance, but we need to push..."
Ferrari question marks
Looking at Leclerc's result and Ferrari fans will feel positive. However, Carlos Sainz failed to escape from Q2. The difference between the two Ferrari drivers is wide, whereas their rivals McLaren start in P6 and P7. Leclerc is ready for a long battle with them for the best of the rest spot in the Championship.
"[Lando] did an incredible lap time and this two centimetres when he went off track doesn't make him gain any time. He did a great job and McLaren is really pushing. So, it's going to be a good fight all over the year and we need to be ready for it and push," Leclerc added.
