Although Mercedes were dominant in qualifying, Red Bull Racing were the fastest in Imola throughout the race. Max Verstappen's car was extremely fast at the start and in drying conditions the Dutchman kept his cool and won the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix by a large margin.

Peter Windsor was also watching Verstappen with wonder. "It's a great victory for Verstappen and Red Bull in a race with changing conditions. He almost shot off at the restart, but fortunately he was able to hold on to the lead," Windsor recalled in his Youtube-video.

Praise for Verstappen

The Dutchman was quick off the mark in the starting stages and he eventually managed to extend his lead to twenty seconds at the finish line."I think today we were also able to really see Max's driving style. He doesn't brake too late and that ensures he has margin to correct. He also has the skill to make the car go into the corner and he lets the car do what he wants. He balances the car perfectly with his amazing ability to sense that."

On Max's teammate, Windsor was still fairly positive, although he also recognises that Perez has let things down himself. "He was fast at certain points during the race, but he shot off the track behind the safety car in turn nine. He then overtook those same cars again behind the safety car and he got that penalty for that. Although he showed a lot of speed during the race, it was a maximum of twelfth place for him." Because of Raikkonen's penalty, that twelfth place eventually became eleventh.
