Sergio Perez had an impressive race in Bahrain and a strong qualifying performance in Imola. However, his start at Red Bull Racing has also been marked by setbacks, with the Imola race a low point. The Mexican is working hard to improve.

Perez is not there yet

In 2021, Perez has been given the chance to step into a top team for the first time at Red Bull Racing. With a pole for Verstappen in Bahrain and a win in Imola, it is clear that the RB16B is fast and competitive in 2021. Perez is still struggling with his car, however, but is working hard to improve it.

''It's about getting to know the car better and feeling really comfortable in it. Right now I'm still thinking too much about what to do,'' says Perez, who does see why Red Bull Racing have grown in recent years into the huge team they are today.

The unique situation at Red Bull

"When you come to Red Bull you immediately notice why they are so successful. The team is very powerful and they can do great things. So for me it's a chance to look into the data and make big steps. I know where I'm falling short and see what I need to do to get closer to the level I'm supposed to be at,'' Perez said in a video on His own YouTube channel.

The Mexican is still happy to have been given a chance at Red Bull, which he calls a unique team. ''You don't realise until you're in why they're so successful. Their mentality is not necessarily very strict. They can be very relaxed, but when performance is required, they do it. That's what makes Red Bull so unique in sports. The important thing now is for me to progress quickly because we have a competitive car now,'' Perez concludes.
