Feature race Valencia E-Prix: Dennis wins from pole
- GPblog.com
After an eventful first feature race and qualifying at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Spain, the second E-Prix was on the program for this afternoon. It was won by rookie driver Jake Dennis for BMW.
Nyck de Vries won the first feature race in Valencia in a spectacular fashion, but he was unable to do the same again today. The driver fell victim to changing weather conditions during qualifying and had to settle for eighteenth on the grid. His team mate Stoffel Vandoorne, who won the second feature race in Rome, started from P17. The second feature race on the Spanish track proved to be a quieter, more tactical race in comparison to the events of earlier this weekend.
As such, the Mercedes contenders saw themselves tasked with a catch-up race today. For Vandoorne, everything seemed to work out for the best for a long time; halfway through the race, he managed to move up to tenth place. Shortly after, however, the Belgian came into violent contact with Sebastien Buemi and lost a large section of his front wing, forcing him to report to the pits. End of session.
Win for rookie Jake Dennis
Nyck de Vries, the current leader in the championship, also missed out on points today. He had to settle for sixteenth. The feature race was eventually won by Jake Dennis, the rookie who had fought to secure his maiden pole earlier today.
