Lewis Hamilton on "physically and mentally" tough race
- GPblog.com
Lewis Hamilton has won the third Grand Prix of the season. During the race in Portugal, the British driver actually had the upper hand all the time, even though he dropped back to third place after the restart. Hamilton says he is happy to have extended his lead in the world championship over Max Verstappen.
"That was such a tough race. Physically and mentally, to take it all in," Hamilton began in the post-race interview. "It was blowing hard and it was easy to make a mistake. I didn't have a good start and Valtteri crashed out on the restart and that wasn't good. I was not happy."
Catch-up
Hamilton continued, looking back on his overtaking: "Max made the mistake at one point and I knew I could get close to him."
Valtteri Bottas also had to give way, allowing Hamilton to take the lead in the race: "Then I could just catch Valtteri in Turn 1. Today not everything was perfect."
