Ocon impresses Alonso: "He is in very good form"

Fernando Alonso's comeback in Formula 1 is not going as he hoped and his teammate Esteban Ocon has clearly dominated the first races of the season. The double world champion is impressed by the Frenchman.
Alonso gives one hundred percent
In the first four races, Ocon managed to score ten points compared to five for Alonso. In the qualifying duel between them, it's 3-1 for Ocon, who is steadily improving his qualifying. "He is in very good form and, at the moment, fully integrated into the team," Alonso praised his teammate on Motorsport.com. "It's impressive what he's achieving now. I give one hundred percent, but that's not enough to be at that level at the moment, so I have to keep improving."
Incumbent driver doing better
According to Alonso, it has often been the case in recent years that the incumbent driver does much better than the newcomer to the team. "We anticipated this a little bit," the Spaniard explains. "When Carlos [Sainz] came to Renault, he was not as fast as [Nico] Hulkenberg. Daniel [Ricciardo] was arguably slower than Nico in 2019 and he was very good in 2020, his second year. Esteban struggled with Daniel last year and is good in his second year."
So it seems that drivers need a bit more adjustment time at the team. "I'm trying to get this done as soon as possible, but I'm not too worried. It's going to come very quickly because in Imola and Portimao we crossed the line together."
