It is known that Dietrich Mateschitz owns 49 percent of the famous Red Bull GmbH. The 76-year-old Austrian has seen his wealth continue to grow in recent years, and on Forbes' list of the world's richest people, Mateschitz is now ranked as the world's number 56.
But how big is his fortune? Mateschitz's wealth is estimated at $26.9 billion, a staggering amount. Only 55 people in a world population of over 7.5 billion are richer. The billionaire earned most of his fortune as a co-founder of giant Red Bull.
Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri
Mateschitz also has two teams racing in Formula 1. He is the owner of Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri. In November 2004, Mateschitz bought Jaguar Racing from Ford for the amount of one pound. Jaguar Racing then changed its name to Red Bull Racing. A year later Minardi was also bought. That was later renamed Scuderia Toro Rosso and currently goes through life as AlphaTauri.
Oh yes, Mateschitz also owns the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, football clubs like Red Bull Salzburg and Red Bull Leipzig, a museum, TV channel and a tropical island called Laucala. Rumour has it that he also has a submarine at the island near Fiji to entertain his guests.
