Penalty points in Formula 1: Mazepin continues to rise
- GPblog.com
The Spanish Grand Prix is already a few days behind us. Where the races were held in quick succession in the past weeks, the Formula 1 teams are preparing for a free weekend. It is a perfect moment to analyse the penalties that have been handed out so far.
The stewards were quiet during the race in Barcelona. Only Nikita Mazepin and Pierre Gasly were penalised. The Haas driver was preparing for a fast lap during qualifying, which caused him to hold back for a moment. Lando Norris, however, was troubled by Mazepin's action and had to let go of his fast lap. The result was a three-place grid penalty, but Mazepin didn't notice. Mazepin started from the back of the grid.
Gasly wasn't quite sharp during the formation lap when he went a little too far forward, so he came to the start in the wrong position. He was given a five-second time penalty and a penalty point. The French driver finished the race in tenth place, just behind compatriot Pierre Gasly.
