After a disastrous 2020, Scuderia Ferrari's ill fortunes seem to have been fixed. The team got off to a good start at the winter tests, and recent upgrades have meant drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc can consistently race for the points again. Mattia Binotto looks back as well as forward, and is intent on battling McLaren for P3.

Looking back at the Spanish Grand Prix, where Leclerc and Sainz finished fourth and seventh respectively, Binotto believes it was "a positive result with a points haul", as quoted by the official website of Scuderia Ferrari .

Binotto continued, setting his sights on McLaren, the defending constructors' P3: "[Spain] saw us close the gap to those just ahead of us.  Achieving that was our main aim for the weekend and we succeeded."

Plenty to do, but steps have been taken

"We head home believing that we have taken a significant step forward compared to where we were in 2020", said Binotto. Despite this, the Italian sees plenty to do before his team can truly compete for prizes again. "There’s still a lot of work to do to get the Scuderia back to where it should be and I was pleased to see that the whole team, both at the track and Maranello, is clearly keen to improve."
