Esteban Ocon was already under pressure at the start of this year. Pierre Gasly would be a big contender to take over his seat at Alpine in 2022, but Ocon is showing on track that he still belongs in Formula 1.

Ocon had a tough time competing with Daniel Ricciardo last year. The Frenchman returned to F1 after a year out and was run over by Ricciardo. With the arrival of Fernando Alonso, Ocon was thought to have little chance of winning the duel, but for now Ocon is the one driving the team forward.

Ocon not looking towards 2022

Laurent Rossi, Alpine's CEO, then revealed that Ocon is showing that he belongs in F1, and that he is doing a good job to keep his seat. ''It's always nice to hear those kind of nice words from your boss,'' Ocon said about that to Motorsport.com. Ocon himself is not thinking about 2022, he leaves that to his management.

''At the moment I'm focusing on racing. I need to get the most out of the car and see where we can improve as a team. If I do that well, then good things will come my way. For now I'm not focusing on anything else but racing, and I'll let my management look at the contract'', concludes the Frenchman.
