Good news for the British Grand Prix. Silverstone has received the green light to allow a capacity of 140,000 fans into the event. The Grand Prix has been designated as one of the British government's experimental events.

British GP is a weekend early

This is what The Telegraph report. The British Grand Prix is scheduled for the weekend of July 16-18, one day before the coronavirus restrictions are lifted in the UK. The restrictions were to be lifted on 19 June, but this has been moved up a month because of the delta variant of the virus.

For a long time it looked like the race at Silverstone would be held behind closed doors, just like in 2020. However, the organizers of the race have warned the British government that the circuit may run into financial difficulties, so fans are now welcome in large numbers.

Why the GP has become a test event

It was important for the government that the majority of fans travel to the circuit by car and not by public transport. In addition, Silverstone is the largest sporting venue in the UK, this also helped in the decision to make the Grand Prix a test event.
