Lewis Hamilton plays down chassis myth: 'Our cars are exactly the same'
- Toby McLuskie
Lewis Hamilton qualified in P2 earlier but the talk of the weekend has been regarding a chassis 'myth' within the team. It was reported that a chassis change had been coordinated involving both Mercedes drivers, but both Hamilton and Toto Wolff played down the reports that the Brit requested the change.
In the press conference, Hamilton was able to clear his mind on the situation and also cleared the air with his answer, "I'm glad I was able to refute [this myth]. Our cars are exactly the same."
Wolff gave his thoughts to Servus TV and also explained and debunked the myth at the same time. When asked about the rumour of whether or not Hamilton requested a change, he confirmed that it was not true, stating: "No, that's not right. A few are confused. We have four chassis and we have to balance the kilometers between them. That is why we made the decision to swap the chassis before the weekend.
"It's a decision that the team took and the drivers were informed mid-week and there was no comment made about it."
