The 2021 Formula 1 season has been one to savour so far. In France, the fantastic season so far continued. Thanks to a fantastic strategy and an overtaking move by Max Verstappen, the Dutchman defeated Lewis Hamilton and took the lead in the championship battle.

In his column on Formula1.com, Ross Brawn says Verstappen was his driver of the day then too. "Max's passion and pain in the middle of the race, when the pressure was so intense, was infectious. Those guys were driving at a pace they all knew they couldn't sustain, but nobody wanted to be the first to blink and make a pit stop." He saw the race go from little spectacle to huge.

"It was great to see the race go from a slow race to a spectacular one. This race was the pinnacle of F1. We saw the human side and the strategic side of the sport in all its glory. And Verstappen was the one who stood on the top step in the end."

Battle between Hamilton and Verstappen

The current battle between Verstappen and Hamilton is the battle all fans of the sport have wanted for years. Verstappen now has the car to challenge and even beat Hamilton at any track. "What we are seeing now is a classic championship battle and it makes us realise what we have missed in recent years. We would like to see a fight between two teams for the championship, and if that can't be done, we want two teammates fighting for the title."

"Both of those things have been missing for us since Nico won his championship in 2016", continued the Brit. "So it's great to see a real hand-to-hand fight. And it's happening in a good atmosphere, between drivers and between teams. There's the normal bickering and the technical debates are all part of the landscape of F1."

The next two races will be held in Austria, where the exciting battle for the championship between Verstappen and Hamilton will continue.
