Wolff on Bottas rumours: 'Valtteri knows that'
- GPblog.com
Mercedes had to let victory slip from their grasp at the French Grand Prix. While Lewis Hamilton was in the lead for a long time, Red Bull Racing's better strategy ultimately gave the decisive edge in the race.
Not only Verstappen and Hamilton drove an excellent race, Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas also showed themselves. Both men battled with each other for the third finishing position, with the Mexican ultimately proving to be the fastest. Nevertheless, Toto Wolff is satisfied with the way Bottas drove in France.
"I still think Valtteri did a good race," the team boss told Formule1.com. "He was very close to Max and Lewis for much of the race. In terms of tyre management, it's also going in the right direction. There is still a difference between Valtteri and Lewis in that respect, but I really see progress in how Valtteri handles the races. And we've never had any doubts about his qualifying."
Rumours about Bottas' contract
The question is what Bottas will do after the season. While he would like to continue at Mercedes, the rumours about his departure and the possible arrival of George Russell are fierce. Wolff, however, has a clear message to the press. "Valtteri knows that performing on the track is the only answer to all these rumours."
