Helmut Marko is looking forward to seeing the stands at the Red Bull Ring turn orange again this weekend. This weekend's fans were already sparsely present but for the Austrian Grand Prix almost all tickets are sold out. The Red Bull Racing advisor even joked that Max Verstappen will drive faster because of it.
On Friday 15,000 fans are expected at the circuit, on Saturday 30,000 and on Sunday 60,000. "The Dutch are coming, Max will go another second faster," Marko is quoted by the Stuttgarter Zeitung. Thousands of Dutch people will try to shout Verstappen to his fourth victory ever in Spielberg.
For those who want to come to the circuit a negative coronavirus test or vaccination is required. Not only Marko, but also Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz is delighted with a full return of the fans. "We need to get back to normality, big events are part of that. There are also a lot of jobs at stake."
Formula 1 brings money to Austria
For Austria, the arrival of Formula 1 and its fans also has a major economic impact. The two Grands Prix add 36.8 million euros in value, of which around 27 million euros are given to Styria. The German media wrote: "This money could create 650 full-time jobs over the whole year. Around 300 of these will be at the Red Bull Ring and the sister companies of Dietrich Mateschitz [owner of Red Bull]."
