Marko about new Pirelli tyres: "Didn't see any problems"
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen saw a certain victory go up in smoke during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix because of a burst rear tyre. Pirelli said it wasn't their fault, but still, they are introducing a small change to the rear tyres. Tests were held in Austria yesterday. What did Red Bull think of it?
The formation from Milton Keynes is actually not in the mood for new tyres at all. Red Bull have a good run of tyres at the moment and with new rear tyres, it remains to be seen whether they will work as well for the RB16B. It would be strange if the Austrian team were suddenly thrown back because of something that wasn't right at Pirelli all year...
Christian Horner also agreed with this prior to the Austrian Grand Prix weekend. "At this stage of the year we wouldn't like to see a variable introduced that favours one team or the other," said the British team boss.
Satisfaction at Red Bull
The German Motorsport-Magazin asked Helmut Marko about the findings after testing the tyres in the free practice sessions on Friday. The Red Bull advisor sounds positive, stating that no aerodynamic influences were observed. "We didn't see any problems at all." Nothing strange was felt from the driver's side either, reports Verstappen: "The new Pirelli prototype tyre seemed fine."
