On Saturday in Spielberg Mercedes announced that Lewis Hamilton will drive for the German team for the next two years. Last year they waited until the winter test, but this year they announced the news earlier, with an eye on the title fight. Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is pleased that Hamilton has signed on.
"This is fantastic news for Formula 1 and I am delighted that Lewis will stay in Formula 1 for at least another two years," Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali revealed in a short reaction on the news from Mercedes.
The impact of Hamilton on F1 is huge
"What he has achieved in this sport is incredible and I know he has more to come." This year Hamilton is going for his eighth world title, but Red Bull Racing seem to have a stronger car.
Finally, Domenicali let it be known that he is looking ahead to the next year, with the impact Hamilton has on F1. "He is a global superstar on and off the race track and his positive impact on Formula 1 is huge," he said.
