For Mercedes, the two weekends at the Red Bull Ring were two weekends to quickly forget. Although Valtteri Bottas took two podiums and Lewis Hamilton was on the podium in the first race, they leave the circuit further behind Red Bull Racing in both championships. At Mercedes, they do see the bright spots after Spielberg, however.

"First of all, I think the result looks worse than it really is because we were stuck behind McLaren. I think in terms of pace we maybe just didn't have enough to win, but there was clearly a step forward," explained Toto Wolff to Sky Sports.

Damage from Hamilton

"The damage occurred on the outside of Turn 10 over the kerb. I don't think he drove over it too hard, it was just a piece that fell away and we looked at the data and there was nothing different to normal there. So we will have to find out why that happened."

"Overall, today was really damage limitation. We'll go to Silverstone, blow everyone away and finish 1-2 with a thirty second lead on the rest," Wolff concluded cynically.
