Although Ferrari performed well at the Austrian Grand Prix it is still a strange feeling: the legendary red cars not even coming close to a podium. While the team was disappointed at the French Grand Prix, the last weekend in Spielberg was at least one that brought a smile to the face of the average Ferrari fan.

Speed on straights

Whereas the team from Maranello caused a stir a few years ago with a fast engine, legal or otherwise, that is precisely what is lacking this season. Binotto says to Motorsport-total.com: "We knew that on paper the circuit was not the best for our car. You need a lot of top speed on the straights, but that's where we are still lacking."

That Ferrari can be fast over one lap this season was proven by the races in Baku and Monaco. Charles Leclerc also managed to achieve the fastest top speed at the Red Bull Ring, at around 332km/h. During the race there are still problems, however, as the Ferrari team boss knows: "When we arrived here last week our focus was obviously on the race pace, to avoid ending up in a situation like Paul Ricard again. But I don't think that's the answer. I think it's more down to the track."

Team spirit

Although Binotto expects to be less good at Silverstone, the Italian is pleased with the team spirit within the Scuderia: "The way we drove in the race was great - both the tyre management and the strategy. The team is growing together more and more. Not only in spirit, but also in actions."
