Leclerc on hard fought race: 'It's great to have these kind of races'
- Toby McLuskie
Charles Leclerc was not the victor in today's British Grand Prix, as Lewis Hamilton claimed the lead in the final stages, but the Monegasque driver still understands the success from his second-place finish at Silverstone.
When speaking to Jenson Button after the race, Leclerc was asked if he is able to enjoy this second-place finish, to which he responded, "yeah, it's difficult to enjoy 100%."
He went on to add, "it's been an incredible race, I gave all of me. But it wasn't enough for the last two laps. Congrats to Lewis he did an amazing job. Just a little bit off pace towards the end."
A surprise for Ferrari
Despite his emotions clearly being on show, Leclerc was still able to share the importance of the strong result for the team, after the struggles they had last year.
"It was not expected. We expected to be competitive, but fighting for the win was incredible," he stated.
He finished the interview by thanking the team and expressing his happiness after his hard-fought battle up front, saying "the team is working incredibly well, so I am proud of the team. It's great to have these kind of races. It cheers everyone up, shows we're working in the right direction."
