Jos Verstappen not happy with Hamilton's time penalty: "Really ridiculous"
- GPblog.com
The battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton was so far without damage, but after today this was different. The long-awaited explosion took place at Silverstone. Hamilton hit Verstappen on the first lap and saw that the Dutchman could not continue his race.
Hamilton eventually won the race, despite his ten-second penalty. According to many people, the penalty which, according to the rules, was correct, was not enough and far too low for the offence. It cost Verstappen his race and many points in the battle for the championship.
Jos would have liked to see a heavier penalty for Hamilton
Jos Verstappen told the Telegraaf afterwards that he shares this opinion. A heavier penalty would have been right because this was insufficient and unfair according to Max's father.
"It really can't be what he did there. I think a 10 second time penalty is really ridiculous. As far as I'm concerned they should have just disqualified him. Max gives him space and just sits in front of him. You can't overtake on the inside."
However, it remained a 10-second penalty and Hamilton thus gained 25 points on Verstappen in the battle for the championship. In Hungary, the title fight will continue and Verstappen will be looking for revenge.
