After a disappointing display in Spielberg at the Austrian Grand Prix, Sergio Perez needed a boost. A good performance at Silverstone would have been the perfect antidote. In England, however, the Mexican went even further. During the sprint race on Saturday he spun off the track due to driver error and the team decided to bring him in a lap before the end so they could at least make some changes to his car for the race on Sunday.

Disappointed

In the race on Sunday Perez fought his way back to eighth place, but because Red Bull Racing wanted to take the point for fastest lap from Lewis Hamilton, Perez was sacrificed. He actually drove the fastest lap, but after contact with Kimi Raikkonen he finished sixteenth and could also forget about his point for fastest lap.

Perez himself told F1.com to be disappointed with his weekend: "Yes, definitely. I think during the race, after my mistake on Saturday, we could have made much more progress. In the end we could have been seventh; I paid better attention to the tyres than the people in front of me. But then we went for the fastest lap for strategic reasons. I think all in all it was a weekend we have to forget and strive to come back stronger."

Regroup

"I think P7 was possible today; with a few more laps I think I could have caught Lance and Fernando, but in the end we decided to stop for strategic reasons to get the fastest lap. It's a weekend for us to forget quickly and we've lost a lot of ground in the championship. We need to regroup, work hard and come back as strong as possible in Hungary," he added.
