Red Bull Racing were dealt a severe blow at the British Grand Prix. Max Verstappen's retirement and Sergio Perez's zero score have brought Mercedes very close to the championship. Michael Schmidt however thinks that Red Bull still has something up their sleeves.
Red Bull Racing is going all out to become world champion this year. Despite the new regulations for 2022, Red Bull continues to develop long into the season to win the battle with Mercedes. Mercedes on the other hand has indicated that development has stopped, but a final update at Silverstone did wonders.
Red Bull has margin
In England, it was make or break for Mercedes, who came to Silverstone with high hopes for new updates. Red Bull might have been a bit surprised by the speed Mercedes found, but Schmidt from Auto, Motor und Sport has made it clear that he expects more from Red Bull.
''I think Red Bull still have a few things up their sleeve, they've been developing the 2021 car for a lot longer than Mercedes now,'' says the journalist from the German medium. He also rates Ferrari's chances high for the upcoming races. ''If it gets this hot again, Ferrari is the secret favourite. Max and Lewis need to watch out not to lose some crucial points there, with Ferrari finishing in between or ahead of them'', Schmidt concludes.
