Toto Wolff was at the E-Prix of London this weekend and saw Nyck de Vries drive from ninth to second place, securing a great podium finish. Earlier this week a link was made with de Vries and Williams for a switch to Formula 1.

It is therefore not surprising that Wolff was asked after the race about the situation of de Vries and teammate Stoffel Vandoorne. To the media present, quoted by Autosport.com he said that he hopes that both the Dutchman and the Belgian will one day drive in Formula 1 again.

"They both deserve to drive in Formula One and I would very much hope that they can find their way back. I'm really happy with them as our drivers in Formula E, I couldn't wish for anyone else."

De Vries to Williams?

It would certainly not be a crazy thought, given that there seems to be a good chance that George Russell will succeed Valtteri Bottas at Mercedes next year and Nicholas Latifi's future is also uncertain at Williams. Wolff would love to see both drivers drive in Formula E, but is not going to stop de Vries if the opportunity arises to make the move to F1.

"I would never stand in the way of a driver if they had the opportunity to drive in Formula 1," he said. Of course, whether this will actually happen depends mainly on what will happen to Russell and Latifi and whether Bottas might return to Williams if Russell does indeed go to Mercedes. If this all happens, it will be a domino effect. Something that could benefit de Vries.
