Mercedes lashed out at Red Bull Racing in a statement posted on social media on Thursday evening. The German world champion felt its World Championship rival was trying to attack the name and integrity of Lewis Hamilton by appealing the ten-second penalty handed out by the stewards at the British Grand Prix. Toto Wolff was confronted with it a day later.

"I think you need to have respect for competitors on track. They've done a good job with their performances on track, so that hasn't changed. I am never upset with anything in F1. I think there were some pretty, who can I say, interesting comments made and it's not for me to judge. I am easy about it," Wolff told Sky Sports.

Horner's words not accepted

The way things are going doesn't exactly please the Mercedes team boss, but he doesn't want to mince his words about it either. "Everybody needs to do it how they can and how they want. if you want to communicate emotionally then you can do that. We're looking at saying the right things. I think the comments that were made were out of emotion, and were going directly at the seven time world champion. Words like amateurish should have no place," Wolff was clear.

The 49-year-old Austrian saw all the comments from Christian Horner and Helmut Marko cause an avalanche of reactions on social media and a lot of controversy. Wolff would prefer to avoid that in the future, although he admits he has not had a one-to-one with Horner.

Wolff enjoys the battle Hamilton-Verstappen

Wolff concluded on British Camera by saying, "I think it's exciting when you have such a rivalry between great drivers. It is what it is, as we know from life it's never 100% right or wrong. When you look at the comments, it's pretty even. 50% say Lewis was at fault, 50% say Max was at fault."
