Leclerc expected to step forward: 'Not a complete surprise'

It hasn't escaped anyone's attention that Ferrari are making a much stronger impression in 2021 than they did in 2020. For many, it's a big surprise. But Charles Leclerc had already seen the resurrection of the Scuderia coming to some extent.
Improvement in 2021 at Ferrari
Ferrari had a dramatic year in 2020. The team dropped to sixth position in the constructors' standings and only three podiums were achieved. With the teams driving the same chassis in 2021 and virtually no opportunity to improve it, insiders expected Ferrari to have another poor season this year.
However, there is little truth in that. The team may not be fighting for victory on a weekly basis, but last year's 131 points have already been achieved after 11 races in 2021. "There's obviously a big gain compared to last year, which is great to see, and it shows we're doing something right in the way we work," Leclerc said according to the Dutch branch of Motorsport.com.
No big surprise
The Monegasque saw the improvement on last season coming: "I think there is a lot of work behind it. Of course I can see that when I'm in Maranello and here on the track. It's not a complete surprise."
But Leclerc is not yet content to fight for third position among the constructors. The 23-year-old driver wants to fight for victories again. "This is not the end of the road yet. Our goal is to be at the top again."
