'Red Bull Racing and Mercedes clash over new engine rules'
- GPblog.com
Formula 1 is going to undergo a number of major changes in the coming years, including the new engine regulations that are due to come into effect in 2025. However, it cannot be ruled out that the introduction of this will take place a year later.
According to the usually well-informed Auto, Motor und Sport Formula 1 teams, the FIA and potential new engine manufacturers are unable to agree on the new engine rules. The parties have been discussing the possibilities on a regular basis, but this has not resulted in a solution yet. It is reported that Mercedes and Red Bull Racing are facing each other.
The discussion would be above all about the future of the current V6 concept. Some parties, in fact, advocate the introduction of a 4-cylinder engine, while others want to stick to the current model. It causes a lot of friction during the talks.
Agreement between parties
The parties do agree on other points. There is agreement on the use of green fuel, the use of a hybrid engine and reducing the cost of the same engine. Because of the discussions between the parties it seems that the new engine era will be postponed to 2026.
