Williams puts pressure on Alfa Romeo in battle for millions: 'Not just about it'
- GPblog.com
It's not just the battle between Mercedes and Red Bull Racing for the constructors' title that looks set to be hugely exciting this season. There is also plenty going on in the battle for the red lantern. For a long time, Williams, Haas and Alfa Romeo were fighting for the bottom spots, but after Hungary, the proportions have changed completely.
Indeed, Williams managed to score a total of ten points, their first points since Germany 2019. As a result, they jumped off the zero score and climbed to eighth position, behind Aston Martin and ahead of Alfa Romeo, who dropped one spot to P9. It will be an important battle for both teams, as at the end of the season the millions will be distributed based on the constructors' championship.
Alfa Romeo keeps hope
At the Swiss team, they are keen to take over that spot again. "It won't be easy, but I think it's possible", Xevi Pujolar, head of Alfa Romeo track engineering, told Motorsport.com. "The difference in points is not very big in my opinion and we still have many races to go."
According to Pujolar, Alfa Romeo still has the better car."I think under normal circumstances we won't make up the gap in a single race, but there are many races to go, so I think we can. In a number of races, points are possible. I would say that it will be more difficult for Williams to get more points", the Alfa Romeo engineer concludes.
