The booing from the Dutch fans present in Hungary was clearly audible. After the hard crash at Silverstone Lewis Hamilton is clearly no longer a public favourite amongst the Dutch. In a little less than a month the Dutch Grand Prix is on the program, where many fanatic Dutch F1 fans will be present.
Sporting director of Circuit Zandvoort, Jan Lammers, hopes the boos will not be heard on the circuit between the dunes. "It's also emotion of course. It's logical that everyone has their own preferences, but let's deal with it in a civilised way. NU.nl.
Applause for Hamilton
Lammers wants to encourage the Dutch fans to treat the seven-time world champion with respect. The Dutchman also understands that the exciting title fight causes emotions, but it is important that those emotions do not take over.
"Let's surprise Hamilton with our sportsmanship and hospitality. We are talking about a seven times world champion who can be compared to a Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. You have to welcome them with big applause in a stadium and not judge them on one incident", Lammers clearly concluded.
