Mercedes has been the big favourite to win the world championship for years. While Lewis Hamilton captured the most world titles for the team, Nico Rosberg also managed to be the best of the season in 2016.
Jock Clear however has less good memories of Rosberg. The former Mercedes engineer worked together with the driver for one season, but that didn't turn out to be a very pleasant year. The two men got into frequent fights with each other, after which Clear left the team. "Nico and I didn't get on particularly well," Clear told the Beyond the Grid podcast.
The partnership ended abruptly as a result, but they now think differently about each other. "We actually get on very well now and we still stay in touch. He's been very helpful to me over the years since, in talking about some of the driver psychology things. So actually, that relationship improved."
2016 World Championship
Rosberg was narrowly superior to Hamilton in his final season with Mercedes. The Englishman managed to capture 380 points in the world championship, but Rosberg had gained five more at the end of the season. After the successful year, the German driver stepped out of Formula 1.
