Surprise in Russell's succession: 'Experience no guarantee of success'
- GPblog.com
Mercedes still have to make a decision in the coming weeks, but it seems that George Russell will join the team next season. It means that Williams will have to find a successor for the well performing driver.
Several big names have come up in recent weeks, but it doesn't necessarily mean that Williams will actually go for a big driver. Jack Aitken is also on the lookout for a new drive. The team's reserve driver has been working hard behind the scenes in recent years and hopes Williams rewards his hard work.
Aitken believes he can play an important role with his team. "I know what direction the car is going in," he told Motorsport.com. "I'm there as often as I can to evaluate the development of both this year's car and next year's. And I think I do that quite well. It's always been one of my strengths to give really strong feedback and also to know what the important things are."
Changes in 2022
Next season, teams will also face an additional challenge as the cars undergo some major changes. "It will take a lot of work to get these cars up to speed and to fix the inevitable teething problems that a new regulation brings. I think that's one of the strengths of the young guys we've seen over the last five years. Experience is not always a guarantee of success."
