Formula E: De Vries and Frijns disappoint, Vandoorne takes pole

After yesterday's poor day, Nyck de Vries and Robin Frijns, both still battling for the Formula E championship, managed to qualify outside the top ten for Sunday's final and all-deciding race in Berlin. Stoffel Vandoorne will start from pole position.
In the first session it was immediately the turn of Nyck de Vries and Robin Frijns. Both Dutchmen registered a time which was good for respectively fourth and sixth place. The top four consisted of Evans, Dennis, Mortara and de Vries. Remarkably this top four was also maintained after the second session, no one appeared to be faster.
In session three Mercedes driver Stoffel Vandoorne was the fastest. Sims, Rowland and Lotterer also made it into the top six, meaning Nyck de Vries dropped back to ninth and missed out on the super pole round. In the fourth session, Vandoorne's strong lap remained unanswered. De Vries was pushed back to P13. Frijns will start from P21 this afternoon. That's a big gap to Dennis (9th) and Mortara (11th). Championship contenders Da Costa (15th) and Di Grassi (17th) also start far outside the top ten.
Superpole won by
The superpole then eventually went to Vandoorne ahead of Rowland and Evans. Sims would finish fourth, while Blomqvist would take fifth. Nato wouldn't even come out during the superpole session due to a technical issue and would have to settle for sixth.
Evans is in the best position of the championship contenders ahead of the race. Dennis is the only other candidate to start in the top ten. Mortara, De Vries, Da Costa, Di Grassi and Frijns all start outside the top ten.
Battle for the title erupts
This afternoon at 15.34hrs the very last race of the Formula E season will start in Berlin. De Vries (95 points), Mortara (92 points), Dennis (91 points), Evans (90 points), Frijns (89 points), Di Grassi (87 points) and Da Costa (86 points) will then decide who will be the Formula E champion of 2021!
