Verstappen gets compliments: 'Waited a long time for his own Mercedes'
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen is really challenging Lewis Hamilton in the battle for the title this year for the first time in his career. The Dutchman is being tested both on and off track. This has certainly brought him some criticism, but the Dutchman's opinion is mainly positive.
In an extensive article on Formula1.com, several journalists speak out about Verstappen. David Tremayne, for example, is particularly enthusiastic about his maturity this season.
"His speed and consistency. He's waited a long time for his 'Mercedes,' if you can put it that way without upsetting Red Bull. And has moved seamlessly into the role we have associated with Lewis for so long. He's still very aggressive, but he's matured. If he is world champion at the end of the year, he has earned it the hard way."
Verstappen sticks to current approach
At least that's what Chris Medland is noticing. Even after the incidents in Silverstone and Hungary, Verstappen remained himself.
"His approach doesn't change. If there is one thing Silverstone showed, it was that Max would not hedge his bets once he had a solid lead in the championship. It was costly on that occasion, but throughout a season in such a tight fight I think he needs to remain as assertive as he has been so far."
Verstappen turns a car into a title contender
At least that's how Lewis Barretto thinks. "That he has taken a title-competitive car and made the most of it. It's one thing to win a race as an underdog, quite another to do so when expected. And he does that with remarkable regularity."
The second half of the season gets underway in two weeks' time. Then Hamilton and Verstappen will continue their battle for the world championship.
