Red Bull Racing and Mercedes are not only competing with each other this season, McLaren are also doing well in the world championship. With Lando Norris the team has a driver who can make things difficult for both Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.

In recent years, it seemed almost impossible to get close to the Austrian and German formation. The cars of the top teams were simply too fast to compete with, while excitement in the world championship was also infrequent. Despite this, McLaren have regularly found themselves between the two teams this season.

It even caused surprise in the team of McLaren, as Andrea Stella told in conversation with Motorsport.com. "We were a bit surprised in some races that we could stay so close to Mercedes and Red Bull. In the second race in Austria, for example, we came very close to the pole position and also in the race we were really fast, whereas normally Red Bull and Mercedes tend to make a gap on the others right away. This is the trend we saw all year."

McLaren performs well in the championship

Norris is currently third in the world championship. The Briton has five points more than Valtteri Bottas and nine points more than Sergio Pérez. He is 74 points behind Verstappen.
