'Red Bull has designed new parts in order to beat Mercedes'
- GPblog.com
Red Bull Racing have some catching up to do at the start of the second half of the season. Not only has Mercedes taken over the lead in the standings, but Pirelli's new rear tyres seem to be working better for the German team. According to reports Red Bull has already come up with an answer to all the setbacks in Belgium and the team has brought new updates.
Given the major rule changes scheduled for 2022, few major updates are expected for this season's Formula One cars. Red Bull Racing, however, is said to be the only one to have designed new parts in an attempt to oust Mercedes from the throne. According to the usually well-informed Auto, Motor und Sport.
Updates and grid penalties for Red Bull
The team are understandably reluctant to reveal what updates they have in store, but there are clear hopes that Max Verstappen can make up some of the lost points. The updates are all the more necessary because Red Bull is facing another setback: the collisions with both Mercedes drivers in Silverstone and Budapest damaged the powerplant of both Verstappen and Sergio Perez to the extent that the team will probably have to impose a grid penalty on both drivers.
When that will happen and if it will be necessary in the case of Verstappen, the team has not yet announced. There is a chance that the engine which was damaged in Silverstone can be repaired without breaking the seals of crucial parts, which could prevent a grid penalty.
