Russell sees tricky situation for De Vries: "Situation is not that simple"

Nyck de Vries became world champion in Formula E last month, proving once again that he is a fast driver. George Russell raced together with the Dutchman in Formula 2 and knows what the Dutchman can do. According to Russell, De Vries is fast enough for Formula 1.
"I think Nyck is a fantastic driver. He is a Formula 2 champion and a Formula E champion. He definitely has the speed, charisma and attitude that a Formula One driver needs," Russell responded to a question from Motorsport.com in Thursday's press conference at Spa-Francorchamps.
Seats rather limited
De Vries said earlier that he hopes for a chance in Formula 1. At Williams, a seat might become available if Mercedes chooses Russell or Nicholas Latifi has to leave. Alfa Romeo Racing still has two seats left and the same goes for Haas F1, although it seems that at least one Ferrari junior will get the chance to prove himself.
"Unfortunately Formula 1 only has room for twenty drivers, so before a great driver can make his entrance, another great driver has to leave," Russell also knows. "So the situation is not that simple. But he deserves to be here. We will have to wait and see if he gets the chance when an opportunity arises. Unfortunately, there's not room for everyone."
Russell knows De Vries well. Not only from Formula 2, but also through family circumstances. The sister of De Vries, Seychelle, has or had a relationship with the Williams driver.
