Sergio Perez has extended his contract with Red Bull Racing. The Mexican is naturally delighted with the opportunity and confidence he's been given by the Austrian racing team and is determined to show more of himself in the coming period.

Since the departure of Daniel Ricciardo at the end of 2018, Red Bull Racing has been searching for the ideal teammate alongside Max Verstappen. Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon were deemed too light, but with Perez's experience more had to be possible. The Mexican won a race in Azerbaijan but did not always convince in 2021. Nevertheless, he is given the time and confidence to show what he can do in 2022 as well.

"I'm very happy to enter the new era of Formula 1 with a great team like Red Bull and it's a great opportunity for me. Everyone is starting from scratch next year with the new regulations, so my only goal is to go all the way to the top with Red Bull," Perez said in Red Bull's statement.

He continued: "It always takes time to get to grips with everything when you join a new team, but things have gone well this season and I really enjoy being part of the Red Bull family. We've worked hard to get results, so it's great to see the team have confidence in me for the future. We have a lot more to achieve together and we have a big challenge ahead of us this season."

"I really hope we can finish the year well and take that momentum into 2022. I want to thank all my supporters around the world and especially those in Mexico. From my sponsors to my fans, they have been so excited since I joined Red Bull, so I really hope we can reward them by reaching the top and winning the title," the Mexican concluded.
