Rumours that Nyck de Vries will be the second Dutchman next to Max Verstappen to drive in Formula 1 in 2022 are getting stronger and stronger. He has reportedly signed a contract this morning.
Sources are reporting the following: "Nyck will drive in F1 next year and will make his debut. The deal has been finalised and was signed the morning after the Dutch Grand Prix," GPToday.net reports.
De Vries in 2022 as second Dutch driver in Formula 1?
The team with which De Vries has reportedly signed a contract is probably Alfa Romeo, where he would then become teammate of Valtteri Bottas. It would also provide the brand new Formula E champion with security for his future, which seemed somewhat uncertain with the announced departure of Mercedes from the racing class.
It would not be the first time that two Dutchmen are active as Formula 1 drivers at the same time. Previously Robert Doornbos and Christijan Albers both drove for Minardi, although that did not last long.
