Does De Vries let a secret slip? 'Formula 1 ehhh Formula E'
- GPblog.com
Nyck de Vries was not able to race at Zandvoort last weekend, but he was present and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere around the circuit. Meanwhile, the chances of him being there next year are increasing.
Goosebumps at Zandvoort
In an interview with Motorsport.com Formula E, the brand new world champion looks back on the return of Formula 1 at Zandvoort."As a sports fan and as a Dutchman, I thought it was really great. I really got goose bumps from the Dutch stands and the atmosphere people created. From F1 I only hear positive things. We have to realise that Holland is a very small country. To organise a sports event and show like this... That's just very good publicity for our country. I hope the event will continue for a long time.
Running with Mercedes
The only difference with Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas was that he was not allowed in the car. Other than that, he worked completely the same program. "For me it has been very instructive. You learn a lot anyway when you run with such a successful team as Mercedes, and also when you listen to the drivers."
However, it was not Mercedes but Max Verstappen who managed to win the race. "Of course I am standing here with a Mercedes hat on, but I can see that very well separately. Completely separate from my employer, I can enjoy such a fantastic weekend and the whole atmosphere."
Next year Formula 1 or Formula E?
The big question now is where De Vries will drive next season. Will he stay in Formula E for another year or will he manage to make that dream move to Formula 1. In recent weeks the Dutchman has been linked with both Alfa Romeo and Williams. "First of all, I have to say that I am very flattered and consider it an honour that I am linked to the respective teams," he said.
According to De Vries, Formula 1 is the highest goal. "It's no secret that every driver dreams of Formula 1 and has that as a goal. But it is not that easy and I must say that I am not a dreamer either, but more of a realist." He expects more clarity in the coming weeks. "I'm in no hurry because the upcoming Formula 1 ehhh Formula E season only starts next year," he makes a perhaps telling slip of the tongue.
