Pérez must reward confidence of Red Bull with points soon
- GPblog.com
Sergio Pérez was overjoyed at the end of August when he was able to announce with Red Bull Racing that he will be part of the Austrian team next season as well. Christian Horner expressed great confidence in the Mexican's development, but it is not inexhaustible in 2022.
Max Verstappen is getting everything out of his car this season. The Dutchman has five points more than his rival Lewis Hamilton and has surprised with points in a number of races. The Red Bull driver drove a badly damaged car in Hungary just before the summer break but managed to bring the car to the finish.
His teammate is clearly struggling more. It is understandable that Pérez does not immediately achieve the same finishing position as Verstappen, but often enough the Mexican did not even manage to score points. So far, Pérez has failed to do so six times, which puts him in fifth place in the world championship with 118 points. With that, he has 14 points less than McLaren driver Lando Norris.
Pérez must get more points
Last weekend Pérez finished fifth, which was a reasonable performance. In Russia, he will have to show again what he is capable of. Of course, it's good for Red Bull to have a driver they can trust, but they also need him to score points. After all, it's Pérez's missed points that Red Bull is missing out on to be on top of the Constructors' Championship, which means the team might miss out on money at the end of the season. And ultimately, money has an effect on opportunities for years to come.
