After a year on the sidelines, Alexander Albon will return to the Formula 1 grid in 2022. The Thai driver will not be driving for one of the two Red Bull teams for the first time, as he replaces George Russell at Williams. At Williams, Albon wants to put the lessons he learned from his first two F1 seasons into practice.

Albon will return to Formula 1 as a Williams driver after a year of simulator work for Red Bull Racing alongside a season in the DTM. The Thai driver said in an interview with Motorsport.com that he was very keen on the Williams project and revealed that he had a good feeling with team boss Jost Capito. "They seem to be all set to attack under the new regulations," Albon revealed.

Learning from time at Red Bull

In his final season as an F1 driver, Albon often underperformed alongside teammate Max Verstappen. But he has used 2021 to reflect as much as possible on all the things that happened in his first two seasons. "For my second chance in Formula One, I want to use that experience," he said.

"With that, you have to remember that I only drove for Toro Rosso for six months and then I immediately spent a year and a half at Red Bull. In that respect I still have quite a learning curve ahead of me, especially because I went to a top team so quickly," continued the 25-year-old driver.

Acting differently than before

Albon is confident about his new opportunity in the premier class of motor sport. And wants to put all the lessons he learned last year into practice. "You think 'oh, but if I had known this before, I would have acted differently'. I have that knowledge now and so I am very grateful that I can show it again," he concluded.
