Seidl on Mercedes engine: 'There was a clear reason for that'.

McLaren team boss speaks highly of the team's partnership with Mercedes in 2021. The team has made a big step in the right direction and hopes to be back fighting for victories every weekend soon.
McLaren had a few lean years. While still racing with Mercedes engines in 2013, the team achieved no more podiums, while in 2014 they only achieved the podium in Australia. The team signed a new contract with Honda, which returned to the sport as an engine supplier in 2015. This period went dramatically, causing McLaren to switch to Renault's power source in 2018.
Choice of Mercedes was simple
Although better results were achieved with the Renault engine, it still wasn't good enough for McLaren. "When we decided to go with the Mercedes engine, there was a clear reason for it – we wanted to have the power unit that won the World Championship in the rear of our car," Seidl said according to PlanetF1.com about the return to Mercedes engines in 2021.
"I’m just very happy when I look at the first months of this relationship, how it started", Seidl continued. The German reveals that both McLaren and Mercedes personnel have done a sensational job to make a strong engine with corona limitations. "We were really ready from the first test, without any reliability problems," concludes Seidl.
